Richland County residents could wake up to a wintry mix of rain, sleet and snow Saturday morning as an arctic chill settles into the area this weekend.

Beginning Jan. 1, the funding cycle will open for Richland County Accommodations Tax, Hospitality Tax and Discretionary Grant programs.  

The following are highlights from Richland County Government in December.

Richland County Council is reviewing its process of awarding taxpayer dollars to local organizations to promote tourism-related activities to determine whether the 11-member body needs to improve the way it allocates the grants, which are approved by a majority vote. 

Richland County Government offices will close Dec. 23, 26 and 27 in observance of Christmas, and Jan. 2 for New Year's Day.
