(Columbia, SC) The Richland County Treasurer’s Office will conduct a sealed bid auction for the 252 properties that did not sell at the annual tax sale on December 9th and 10th. Properties include various real estate such as tracts of land, buildings, etc., that have not paid taxes since tax bills were sent out in November 2012.
The deadline to submit bids to the Treasurer’s Office is January 31st at 5:00 PM. A $10 bidder fee must be paid to the Richland County Treasurer’s Office in order to receive a bidder number to participate in the sealed bid auction. If a person was a bidder at last month’s tax sale, they can use the same bidder number already issued to them without paying the $10 fee again. The defaulting property owner has until December 10th, 2014 to redeem the property by paying taxes, costs, and interest due to the successful bidder.
Bids for each property open with the outstanding taxes due. Some of the delinquent properties’ opening bids begin as low as $100 and go up to $49,600. The county will take the highest bid (above the opening bid amount) for each property.
A list of the properties to be auctioned along with bid instructions, bidder sign-up sheets and bid forms, can be viewed at www.rcgov.us/treasurer or for further information call (803) 576-2250.
