Four months after the October flooding that devastated many Richland County communities, Richland County Solid Waste & Recycling is returning to normal debris collection.

In early October, Richland County Solid Waste & Recycling (SW&R) escalated its availability and services to help residents rid their homes, businesses and properties of flood-related debris. In addition to its employees working extended hours, SW&R worked with a contractor to assist in collecting massive amounts of flood debris and the department provided drop-off sites for residents to dispose of flood-damaged household materials.

Richland County’s contracted hauler stopped collecting flood-related debris in mid-November, though SW&R continued to pick up flood waste at curbside. However, Jan. 8 will be the last day the County will collect flood debris.

After Jan. 8, residents will have to dispose of flood debris by taking it to one of the County’s two drop-off centers:

·         C&D Landfill Drop-off Center, 1070 Caughman Road North (off Monticello Road), 7 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday

·         Lower Richland Drop-off Center, 10531 Garners Ferry Road, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 12:30 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday

SW&R will return to its normal curbside collection routine beginning Jan. 11, meaning residents should place compliant yard waste curbside by 7 a.m. on their collection day and appointments should be made for large/bulk items to be collected.
