·         Paige Greene, executive director of Richland County Court Appointed Special Advocates (RC CASA), received the Kappa Alpha Theta Program Director of the Year Award at a national CASA conference in New Orleans.

·         Richland County Councilmembers, transportation officials and residents celebrated the groundbreaking of the Innovista project, funded by the Transportation Penny, that will transform Greene Street into a pedestrian- and bicyclist-friendly corridor.

·         More than 70 local small business owners attended a special Small Local Business Enterprises Stakeholders Meeting to learn how they can become eligible to participate in Transportation Penny and other Richland County projects.

·         Richland County and the S.C. National Guard McCrady Training Center joined forces to provide emergency medical services to military personnel and Lower Richland residents. A Richland County Emergency Medical Services (EMS) unit is now operating out of the McCrady center’s recently expanded fire station, combining both fire and medical services in one location.

·         Richland County Emergency Medical Services won a national American Heart Association award for its efforts to improve the treatment of patients who experience severe heart attacks.

·         Richland County Solid Waste and Recycling announced it is now offering gently-used clothing and book collection at its two drop-off sites.

·         Richland County's Neighborhood Improvement Program and the Community Development Department held the first Upgrade Together conference that welcomed more than 100 residents who were interested in learning about home, property and community improvements.

·         Chaplain Carnell Johnson was named Volunteer of the Year by the South Carolina Jail Administrators Association for his more than 20 years of volunteer service at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center.

·         Richland County’s Planning Department showcased the community improvement of several neighborhoods throughout the County during a special “block party” event at the Administration Building.

·         Richland County organized a Flood Risk Open House during which residents learned if their homes or properties were located in high flood-risk areas. County officials and FEMA representatives were on-hand to review options for those possibly affected by flooding.
