Richland County Solid Waste & Recycling is now offering a new disposal service for residents: most unwanted carpets and carpet padding will be accepted at the Caughman Road Landfill Drop-off Center.
Residents can bring carpets and padding to be recycled, including carpet padding with foam cushion, synthetic padding, rebond padding and foam padding from upholstered furniture.
A few certain types of carpet and padding can’t be accepted. Rubber padding can’t be dropped off, nor commercial glue-down carpet or carpet tile.
The Caughman Road Landfill Drop-off is located at 1070 Caughman Road North, Columbia. It operates from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. on Saturdays.
There is no charge for limited quantities coming from a primary residence when the materials are brought by the resident. Commercial industries and businesses are welcome to drop off these items for recycling, however the customary disposal fees will be charged.
This service is planned to begin at the Lower Richland Drop-off Center within the next few months for primary residences only.
