Natural Christmas trees can be recycled into mulch at two Richland County Solid Waste and Recycling locations beginning the day after Christmas.
As part of Keep the Midlands Beautiful’s “Grinding of the Greens,” natural trees can be dropped off at the Richland County C&D Landfill, 1070 Caughman Road, and Clemson Road Recycling Site, 900 Clemson Road (across from the Village at Sandhill), during regular hours from Dec. 26 through Jan. 8.
Before dropping off trees for recycling, please follow these guidelines:
• Remove all lights, tinsel and ornaments from the tree
• Remove the tree from the stand
• Drop off trees only – no wreaths, garland or other greenery
• Remove any string, wire or ties on the tree
In addition to the two Richland County Solid Waste and Recycle locations, trees can be dropped off at several other sites in Richland and Lexington counties. To view the complete list of drop-of cites and their hours of operation, click here or visit www.keepthemidlandsbeautiful.org or call 803-733-1139.
Free mulch made from the recycled trees will be available to the public at the following two locations on Jan. 10 from 8:30 a.m. until the mulch runs out:
•Seven Oaks Park , 200 Leisure Lane, Columbia (near the intersection of St. Andrews and Piney Grove roads)
