Richland County is holding a free community drop-in for residents to cap off a year of looking back and looking ahead.
The drop-in will be 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014 in the Carolina Room at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center, 1101 Lincoln St.
As the County marked its 215th anniversary in 2014, staff and officials met with residents this year to chart a path for the County’s future.
Fifteen PLAN TOGETHER community meetings were held throughout the County to get input from residents to update the County’s comprehensive plan for growth. Residents will have two more opportunities to tell Richland County decision makers about their experiences and opinions on PLAN TOGETHER as the Planning Commission and County Council consider formally adopting the plan.
The area known today as Richland County was created in 1785 by the General Assembly as part of the larger Camden District. In 1786, the state capital was relocated from Charleston to the geographic center of the state, and a new city was born. Once Columbia was established as the state capital and county seat, Richland County’s boundaries were formally incorporated on Dec. 18, 1799 – the year noted on the County seal.
