(Richland PIO) – Richland County’s Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center is investigating a suspected, non-fatal opioid overdose. The detention center’s medical staff was alerted to a code blue in Unit X-Ray at 11:12 a.m. today, where the team found a detainee ill and incoherent.
Medical personnel immediately administered two doses of Narcan. The detainee subsequently became alert and responsive and was taken to the hospital by Richland County EMS for additional treatment and assessment.
Richland County is determined to find out the sources that are contributing to the use of drugs at Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center,” said Leonardo Brown, County administrator. “This type of illegal activity in the jail will not be tolerated, and we will hold those responsible to the highest extent of the law.”
The detention center is conducting an internal investigation in conjunction with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. No additional information is available at this time.
