Richland County Council has approved a revised version of the County’s Land Development Code (LDC) zoning map. The zoning map passed a third reading during the regularly scheduled Council meeting Tuesday, Oct. 3. Text amendments to the LDC passed a first reading.
State law required Council to first adopt a zoning map before it could consider new text amendments recommended by the Planning Commission last fall. Zoning maps regulate land use and determine which areas are designated residential, commercial or multi-use development.
County Council will hold a work session on the proposed text amendments Tuesday, Oct. 24. A public hearing and second reading on the text amendments is scheduled for Nov. 7, with a third reading Nov. 14. A condensed timeline follows:
- Oct. 24 – Work session on text amendments
- Nov. 7 – Public hearing of text amendments; second reading of text amendments
- Nov. 14 – Third reading of text amendments
- Mar. 1, 2024 – Effective date of zoning map and text amendments
The public can attend County Council meetings in person at the Richland County Administration Building, 2020 Hampton St., Columbia, or watch live on the County’s YouTube page. Links to virtual meetings also can be found on the County’s social media platforms and website.
