Motorists can expect delays along Garners Ferry Road in Southeast Richland starting next week, as work on a new connector nears completion.
Crews contracted by Richland County Transportation will begin paving along Garners Ferry (U.S. 378) and its median near the Garners Ferry Sports Complex the week of March 8, affecting both east- and westbound traffic. The work is expected to take about two weeks, weather permitting.
Construction typically will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Drivers should use patience and caution, as temporary lane closures could cause delays.
The project’s focus is Garners Park Road, a new two-lane, half-mile path connecting Garners Ferry and Rabbit Run roads. Garners Park Road is in the final stages of paving and is expected to be completed soon. A multi-use path along the road is also nearly complete.
Garners Park Road is part of the Southeast Richland Neighborhood (SERN) Master Plan, included in the County’s Transportation Penny Program.
SERN also includes two multi-use paths in the area already under construction: one on Rabbit Run Road connecting Garners Park Road with Lower Richland Boulevard, and one on Lower Richland Boulevard connecting Rabbit Run Road with Lower Richland High School. Work on a fourth project, to correct a drainage problem on Rabbit Run Road, is already complete.
Richland County expects to finish all SERN projects by this summer.
