Richland County Council will kick off a new term Tuesday, Jan. 5 with the ceremonial swearing-in services for five new members, who won election in November.
Individual swearing-in ceremonies for each newly elected Councilmember will be streamed live from Council Chambers on Richland County’s Facebook page. County facilities remain closed to the public because of COVID-19.
The ceremonies will begin at 2 p.m. and allow time for County staff to sanitize hard surfaces between each swearing-in.
The incoming Councilmembers and their scheduled times to be sworn in are:
- 2 p.m.: Derrek Pugh, District 2
- 3 p.m.: Gretchen Barron, District 7
- 3:30 p.m.: Overture Walker, District 8
- 4 p.m.: Jesica Mackey, District 9
- 4:30 p.m.: Cheryl English, District 10
The five Councilmembers are new to County Council. They were elected in November, along with Yvonne McBride, who will be serving District 3 for a second term on the 11-member Council.
Following the swearing-in ceremonies, County Council will hold a virtual meeting at 6 p.m. At this meeting, Councilmembers are scheduled to elect a chair and vice chair to serve in leadership roles on County Council for the upcoming year.
The virtual meeting will be streamed live on Richland County’s YouTube page.
