Richland County Transportation will hold a public meeting in March to update residents on changes coming to projects in the greenway program.
The meeting will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. March 11 at the Columbia Metropolitan Convention Center.
In December, County Council voted to reallocate funds within the program to complete as many outstanding projects as possible. To stay within the program’s original funding amounts, approved through a 2012 sales tax referendum, the County is realigning projects that are no longer feasible or lack public support.
Changes to the program include eliminating eight greenway sections, redesigning other sections and redistributing funding from eliminated greenway projects to finish projects scheduled to move forward.
“Realignment of these greenway segments will allow the Penny Program to maximize the use of funding dedicated to creating greenways for the community,” said Richland County Transportation Manager Michael Niermeier. “This action aligns the projects desired by the public and those that can be constructed based on physical environment.”
The March meeting will feature an information station for each greenway project. At each station, residents will be able to talk with a project manager assigned to that specific project and review a detailed map of the planned changes.
