Following last week’s successful 100 Plates event that brought residents to Columbia Place Mall to share a meal and ideas, Richland County’s Planning Services Division will host sessions in November on funding available to residents to improve their neighborhoods.
These events are part of the Engage Richland-Neighborhood Improvement series of events, workshops, panels and trainings focused on equipping residents with the knowledge and skills necessary to connect and enhance their communities. Input from residents who attended 100 Plates is being compiled into a comprehensive action report to be presented early next year to County Council and the public.
“We, in the Planning Services Division, have conceptualized an optimal Richland County – one where residents are informed, engaged and empowered and we are bringing that vision to fruition with initiatives like 100 Plates and our upcoming Engage Richland-Neighborhood Improvement grant training sessions,” said Planning Services Division Manager Ashley Powell. “Most importantly, though, we’re holding ourselves accountable for consistently providing excellence in service and connecting our residents with necessary resources. We are committed to being change agents in hopes that our efforts will inspire like action all around the County.”
The grant training sessions will inform residents about available grants and application processes. Neighborhood Improvement Program staff will provide an overview of the Neighborhood Matching Grant, what it can be used for and what is needed in order to submit a successful application.
The meetings are scheduled as follows:
- 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15
- 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 20
- 10 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27
- 6 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 29
All sessions will be in the Fourth Floor Conference Room at 2020 Hampton St., Columbia. The sessions will offer the same information, so residents only need to attend the session that is convenient to them.
