About 18,300 property owners will soon receive notice that their property value has increased.

Each year, the Richland County Assessor’s Office sends Notices of Classification, Appraisal and Assessment of Real Estate to property owners whose real property value increased by at least $1,000. The most common reasons for value increases are newly constructed buildings and additions, renovations and the recent purchase of property.

These notices are not bills. They serve as a courtesy to notify property owners of the increase in value of their property. Property owners who receive one of these notices will have 90 days from the date of the notice to appeal the assessment. 

A new feature on the notices is a QR code printed on the back that property owners can scan using a code-reading mobile phone app to be automatically directed to an online tax estimate of their property, based on the new value for 2018.

The Assessor’s Office began mailing the notices July 20.
