Richland County Council met for the first time this year to elect a chair and vice chair to serve in those roles through 2018.
Joyce Dickerson, who represents District 2, was re-elected Chair and Bill Malinowski, who represents District 1, was re-elected as Vice Chair for 2018. The Chair and Vice Chair of Richland County Council maintain order during Council meetings, decide what items make it onto agendas and often represent Council at public functions. Dickerson and Malinowski were the only nominees for the positions.
“I am committed to serving with dignity, respect, transparency and openness,” Dickerson said after her re-election.
Currently in her fourth term, Dickerson previously served as Council Vice Chair in 2014. Council Chair Dickerson is committed to fiscal responsibility and sustainable budgeting and has an open-door policy not only for her district constituents, but all Richland County residents. She advocates economic development, job creation and transparency in government.
Mr. Malinowski has served District 1 since January 2007. Because the district is both rural and urban, one of Mr. Malinowski top priorities is to balance varying constituent needs of District 1. For more than a decade, he has worked to protect the rural character of his community, while advocating a proactive approach to business development.
