Due to inclement weather, Richland County Government offices will close at 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 5, with the exception of essential personnel.
Emergency officials continue to monitor weather models and have been preparing for severe weather response. Today’s early release is to not cause alarm, but to ensure employees have adequate time to safely commute home before some of the heaviest rains and strongest winds move into the area later this afternoon.
Some curbside collections in Richland County could be affected by the weather. Richland County Solid Waste & Recycling is making the following adjustments as needed:
· Area 1 (northwestern part of the County, from the confluence of the Broad and Saluda rivers to the Newberry County line, between the Broad River and the Lexington County line) and Area 6 (between Air Base Road/Eastover Road and Leesburg Road, from I-77 to the Sumter County line) will run as normal. These routes are usually completed by 1 p.m. If collections can’t be completed because of weather, the routes will be completed Thursday morning.
· Area 2 (between the Broad River and I-77, north of I-20 to the Fairfield County line)and Area 4 (between Hard Scrabble Road and Two Notch Road, north of Rabon Road to the Kershaw County line) will run as normal unless trucks have to be pulled off the road. If so, they will be completed on Thursday.
· In Area 3 (between I-77 and Hard Scrabble Road, north of Kelly Mill Road to the Fairfield County line), haulers will focus on collecting garbage and recycling today. Yard waste will be collected Thursday instead of Wednesday – this allows yard waste trucks to collect recycling today before strong winds possibly blow over carts and scatter recycling.
· In Area 5A (between Percival Road and Two Notch Road, between Screaming Eagle Road and the Kershaw County line, east of Highway 601, and north of Old McGraw Road and Goffman Road to the Kershaw County line), yard waste collections will run as scheduled today. If collections are unable to be completed because of weather, collections will resume Friday.
· Area 5B (between Two Notch Road, Decker Boulevard, Forest Drive and North Beltline Drive) and Area 7 (east of I-77, between the Congaree River and Air Base/Eastover Road to the Sumter County line), yard waste collections will run as scheduled today. If collections are unable to be completed because of weather, collections will resume Friday.
