The following are highlights from Richland County Government in March:
· Richland County Vector Control began spring spraying for mosquitoes in an effort to reduce mosquito populations throughout Richland County.
· The Richland County Planning Department held three public workshops to garner public input about updates and rewrites to the County’s land use and zoning regulations.
· After the resignation of the director of the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center, Richland County named the assistant director to serve as interim director of the facility until a new, permanent jail manager is hired.
· Richland County Court Appointed Special Advocates , which serves neglected children who need representation in the family court system, won another national award – the Promising Practice Spotlight Award – for its innovation approach to solving a communications gap between agencies.
· Four local schools received funding for conservation projects and programs through grants from the Richland Soil and Water Conservation Commission.
· Richland County Economic Development Director Jeff Ruble provided an in-depth interview about the local economy in the March edition of “Columbia Metropolitan Magazine.”
· Richland County’s Public Information Office kicked of the 2017 edition of Richland 101, which is a free annual course for residents that gives an inside look into local government through presentations from elected officials and staff.
