Three Richland County offices and a Sheriff’s Department substation have officially relocated to the Decker Center, the County’s new state-of-the-art public facility.
Staff from Richland County Central Court, the Dentsville Magistrate and the Hopkins Magistrate began transitioning from the facility at 1400 Huger St. to the new Decker Center earlier this week.
Beginning today, the three offices will operate at the Decker Center at 2500 Decker Blvd., Columbia. All telephone numbers will remain the same, and residents who may call and reach voicemail are asked to leave a message to have their call returned by staff as soon as possible.
“We’re moving into 76,000 square feet,” said Chief Magistrate Judge Donald Simons. “There’s no comparison in the amount of space that we have here than where we’re moving from … We need something that we can grow into and grow along with the County.”
The Huger Street facility is roughly 12,000 square feet, he said.
The Dentsville and Hopkins magistrate offices will operate at the Central Court facility at the Decker Center until permanent locations for both magistrates are completed. The Dentsville magistrate office is being renovated, while a new facility will be constructed for the Hopkins location. Both are expected to open in 2018.
The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is relocating a substation to the Decker Center as well. Units that will be housed there include:
· Court Liaison
· Body Camera Management
· Internal Affairs
· Region 2
· Fugitive Team
· Warrant Division
· Civil Process
“The Richland County Sheriff’s Department is looking forward to getting situated in our new facility to better serve the community,” Sheriff Leon Lott said.
