Columbia, SC—Two Richland County students have been named state winners in the “Where Does Your Water Shed” conservation poster contest sponsored by the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD). Sarah Bobertz, a first grader at A.C. Moore Elementary School, is the winner in the Kindergarten through 1st grade category. Blythewood High School freshman Fiona Aldighieri, who was a student at Longleaf Middle School at the time she submitted her poster, is the award winner in the 7th-9th grade category. Each student will receive a $25 cash prize from the SC Association of Conservation Districts, and their posters will progress to the national competition.
The annual conservation poster contest raises awareness about soil and water conservation through youth outreach. In this year’s competition, K-12 students were invited to create posters with the title “Where Does Your Water Shed,” telling the story of our watersheds and imparting a conservation message.
The 2014 contest theme is “Dig Deeper: Mysteries in the Soil,” and information about the contest is available online. The deadline for entries in the County competition is May 15, 2014.
