Columbia, SC— Applications are now being accepted for the Richland County Conservation Teacher of the Year and Richland County Conservation Principal of the Year awards. Each spring, the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District recognizes school teachers and administrators who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment to conservation education. Often, these educators are involved in efforts such as school recycling, composting, gardening, and wildlife habitat initiatives. Winning educators receive a $100 cash prize and are recognized at the Conservation District’s spring banquet.
Self-nominations and nominations from individuals or groups who are familiar with the nominee’s work are acceptable. The deadline to nominate a Richland County teacher or principal is March 31, 2014. Submit nominations using the following forms:

Conservation Districts are political subdivisions of state government under the local direction of five-member Boards of Commissioners. In South Carolina, Conservation District boundaries conform to County boundaries. The Richland Soil and Water Conservation District promotes the wise planning and use of natural resources for the benefit of the citizens of Richland County.
