Sarah Burnham

Tell us about yourself.
After college, I served as a health and nutrition specialist in the Peace Corps in West Africa. When I returned to the United States, I began my teaching career. I have taught fourth-seventh grades math, science, and English for the past 25 years. My Montessori classroom has a conservation theme, and I incorporate environmental education weekly.
Why did you join the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District (RSWCD)?
I became interested in RSWCD after receiving a grant to improve school gardens. After working with several members of the team, I learned more about this fantastic organization.
What do you enjoy about RSWCD?
I enjoy spending time with people who care about our community and want to preserve it. I have learned a great deal in my time with RSWCD.
What do you wish to tell the community?
There are many ways to become involved with conservation in our community. Come to one of our monthly meetings and find out more!
What is an interesting fact about you?
After completing my Peace Corps service, I hitchhiked solo over 1,000 miles across the southern edge of the Sahara Desert.
