Tim McSwain
Richland Soil and Water Conservation District Commissioner
Tell us about yourself.
I graduated from the University of South Carolina with a business degree in Finance and Marketing and spent a professional career of 38 years working in the Information Technology field. I retired from Wells Fargo Bank as a Vice President, Technology Investment Manager.
Why did you join the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District (RSWCD)?
My wife, Mary Beth, and I are both South Carolina natives and have been married for 42 years. Mary Beth serves as a SC Richland Soil and Water Conservation District Associate Commissioner. I also serve as Past President of the SC Farmer and Agribusiness Association and Secretary of the National Young Farmers Education Association. We own small tracts of land in Richland, Fairfield, and McCormick counties, which we manage for timber production, wildlife, conservation, and recreation.
What do you enjoy about RSWCD?
I originally joined RSWCD as an Associate Commissioner, while serving as an appointed Commissioner on the Richland County Conservation Commission. I was asked to run for Commissioner when a long-serving Commissioner decided to retire. I was elected and it is a privilege to serve in this role to promote the wise use and care of natural resources in Richland County.
What do you wish to tell the community?
I most enjoy the great partnerships that RSWCD has with many local, state and national organizations. RSWCD issues education grants each year to many deserving students. This is a wonderful way to encourage and engage youth in an early path to lifelong conservation practices.
What is an interesting fact about you?
I have a small collection of classic trucks and cars, encompassing from the 50s through the 80s.
