Logan Richardson
Richland Soil and Water Conservation District Associate Commissioner
Environmental Scientist
Tell us about yourself.
My career began as an intern at the Newberry Soil and Water Conservation District, where I first learned about conservation districts and their role in the community and conservation efforts. Because of that experience and how much I was able to learn and be involved, I decided to go further and get my masters in Agricultural and Environmental Systems with a concentration in Natural Resources and Sustainability. From there, I was hired by Brown and Caldwell to work as an Environmental Scientist. I work on a variety of projects for different clients, but I wanted to serve as an Associate Commissioner for the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District because I believe in the work that the conservation districts do, and I enjoy getting to work with and learn from so many different people.
Why did you join the Richland Soil and Water Conservation District (RSWCD)?
I joined the RSWCD because I believe that those with the knowledge and resources should give back to the community that has given so much. I hope that our efforts encourage future generations to take action, provide the necessary resources and services to the community, and encourage all to be stewards of the environment.
What do you enjoy about RSWCD?
I enjoy the educational programs the most. Although I only review grant applications, it gives me hope for the future of agriculture and conservation to see young kids, all the way up to seniors in high school, eager to learn, being creative, and providing fresh perspectives on environmental issues.
What do you wish to tell the community?
You can be passionate about many things, but if you do what brings you joy, you’ll never work a day. I have always been passionate about the environment, but working in agriculture has brought me so much joy and has given me opportunities that I could’ve only dreamt of as a child. Regardless of whether people choose to make it a hobby or career, give it a try or get involved.
What is an interesting fact about you?
I hunt Burmese Pythons. They are highly invasive and destructive to the ecosystems in Florida, so I consider it a conservation effort but it’s also a wild adventure.
