Richland County Inspections
The Development Services Department provides a full scope of services as it relates to Inspections. Inspections are conducted on all aspects of development to assure compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. The Inspections Team is comprised of professionals in various departments who conduct inspections on Structures (Building Department), Earthwork (Engineering Department), Landscaping (Planning Department) and Fire Protection (Fire Marshal's Office). Building Department
The Richland County Department of Building Codes and Inspections is committed to the courteous, impartial and professional application of the adopted building codes for the permitted construction and maintenance of buildings within Richland County. The department personnel strive for customer service with a pro-active building code program for safe structures. We remain service oriented to assist our customers, providing better communication, education and safety for our residents.
Engineering Department
The Engineering (New Development) Division facilitates the permitting of land disturbance for compliance with the SCDHEC Construction General Permit. Our mission is to promote and regulate development with minimal adverse impact to adjacent properties and environmentally-sensitive areas of Richland County. We permit small and large construction activities in the unincorporated Richland County as well as in other municipalities through inter-governmental agreements.
Fire Marshal’s Office
The Richland County Fire Marshal’s Office, a division of the Richland County Emergency Services Department, is charged with conducting fire and life safety inspections for new and existing structures. Our mission is to provide prompt and professional service to our customers and shareholders by taking a comprehensive, common sense approach to applying code principles. We are committed to improving the quality service we provide to make Richland County a safer place to work, live, and play.
